Peru

Peru is a country where history breathes from every stone and nature stirs the soul. From the mystical heights of Machu Picchu to the colorful markets of Cusco, from the Andean highlands to the lush Amazon and the coastal deserts – Peru offers a journey through time, culture, and breathtaking landscapes.

Lima is the capital of Peru and there is much to see in the only capital at the sea. The view from the hill San Cristobal over the city alone is worth a visit, no matter where you look, Lima reaches all the way to the horizon. In the city itself, many historical buildings in the colonial style can be found, like the Palacio de Gobierno or Palacio Municipal de Lima.

The best-known and most important square is Plaza de Armas, one of the most beautiful Plaza San Martin. The more modern and trendy quarters Miraflores or Barranco have some really nice culinary highlights to offer and a stroll through the streets reveals many stunning historical buildings. The most important city north of Lima is Trujillo. This is the cultural capital of Peru and the origin of the Totoras de Caballeros, the reed boats of the fishermen. During a walk along the streets of the old part of town, the beautiful old houses tell many stories that happened here during the colonial era or the time of the Mochica. You can drive to Chan Chan from here, a city made of mud and one of the biggest in the whole world in the 15th century.

The true highlight of every trip to Peru has got to be the famous world wonder Machu Picchu which has been a mystery for more than 600 years - how did they build a city this high in the Andes?? And yet, the Incas managed to do so back in their time, leaving one marvelling at all the temples, fountains and palaces. And the view will leave you breathless! An insider tip is the city of Oxapampa that lies on the edge of the rainforest. In the midst of the jungle, a German-Austrian colony surprises the visitor, which belongs to the UNESCO world natural heritage together with the surrounding national park. The possibilities for outdoor activities are plenty.
