Argentina

One simply falls in love with Argentina at first sight: The land of the firy Tango, the best steaks, gauchos, of Patagonia and the Andes has mesmerized travellers since the beginning. The pulsating street life of Buenos Aires with its beautiful stone facades and stylish citizens is just one side of the medal. The much bigger attraction is Argentina's fantastic landscapes. From the mighty Iguazú falls in the north to the glaciers in the south - Argentina is a true wonderland! The mountains rise in front of you in the brightest colours, deserts are peppered with cacti, gigantic ice fields and dry steppes - wherever you go, grandeur all around you! Animal lovers can watch flamingos, caimans, penguins and many more exotic animals... Be amazed! (But don't talk about football with the Argentinians...)

The industrial, commercial and political centre of Argentina is the capital Buenos Aires. It is one of the greatest cities in the world and is located on the southeastern coast of the continent. As one of the most developed cities in South America, Buenos Aires is often referred to as the Paris of the South. The city is famed for its night life and cultural variety: many historical buildings of very different architectural styles as well as many religious sites. Buenos Aires is a destination well worth visiting for all dancers - this is the home of Tango! In the capital of tango, countless concerts and events with famous tango artists take place every year.

Argentina is the land of ice and fire: Visit Patagonia if you want to experience some really fascinating landscape changes! Only about a million people live here, the population being stretched across an area of the size of Europe. Nature is raw and wild here and is home to many different species such as flamingoes. Furthermore, the Panamericana ends here, 1000 km long and coming all the way from Alaska. The national park Los Glacieres is certainly the highlight in this region and is listed as a UNESCO world natural heritage since 1981.

Why not combine Argentina with Chile? The other part of Patagonia lies in Chile, with the national park Torres del Paine. A detour to the Pampa is always a good idea, the eco region in the Southeast of South America on the border to Uruguay and Brazil which is often compared to the Australian outback. Here you will find the agricultural centre of Argentina, famous for its cattle farming and gauchos!

The famous waterfalls of Iguazú are also on the border to Brazil: Incredible masses of water cascading more than 80 m down into the "Devil's Throat" as it is called. The national parks that surround the waterfalls both belong to the UNESCO world heritage.
