Malaysia

Malaysia consists of the western part located on the Malay Peninsula and the eastern part located on the island of Borneo.

Kuala Lumpur is the largest city in Malaysia and is located at the mouth of two rivers, Gombak and Klang, which also gives the city its name, which translates as muddy river mouth. The metropolis of millions is very diverse and multi-ethnic, having been founded in 1857 by miners in the middle of the jungle. Today, Kuala Lumpur is a major economic centre for many sectors and is highly modernised. The city's famous landmark is the world's tallest twin towers, the Petronas Towers.

Georgetown, the capital of Penang Province, was named by the British East India Company after the British monarch George II, but is simply called Penang by the locals. Worth seeing here are the numerous mosques, churches and temples in the city centre as well as other traditional buildings, which have contributed to Georgetown being a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008.

The largest city on the second Malaysian island of Borneo, Kuching is named after a hill in the centre of the city and translates simply as cat. Accordingly, there is a cat museum in the city. This, as well as the parliament building, the DUN complex, characterise the image of the city and are among its sights. Here, too, you can find the orangutan, which is native only to Borneo, or experience the impressive nature up close while trekking on Malaysia's highest mountain, Kinabalu.

Malaysia is waiting to be discovered. Find out what our incoming partners have in store for your clients!
